    Hello Eric.
Is there a correlation between the paddle length and the blade size?
I’ve followed your advice and cut my paddle to my forehead height. After come time of paddling with a shorter paddle, I feel that the blade size is too big. I would like to increase cadence and put less pressure on my elbow. Have you experimented with different paddle blades sizes at the same shaft height? Thanks in advance.

Hi Aleksey, I wouldn’t say there is a correlation between paddle length and blade size, but I would say that the longer I’ve been surfing on a paddle board the more I prefer a smaller blade. I’m actually trying the smallest blade I’ve used to date. As you drop in volume the force needed to stay on top of the water increases. I describe it like putting more weight on the barbell. A big blade and lower cadence increases the pull needed.

Going smaller will ease pressure on elbows and shoulders. You might also want to play around with different flex. I find I like just a bit, not too stiff and definitely not too bendy.

      Hope that helps. E
