  1. Hello Eric.
Is there a correlation between the paddle length and the blade size?
I’ve followed your advice and cut my paddle to my forehead height. After come time of paddling with a shorter paddle, I feel that the blade size is too big. I would like to increase cadence and put less pressure on my elbow. Have you experimented with different paddle blades sizes at the same shaft height? Thanks in advance.

    1. Hi Aleksey, I wouldn’t say there is a correlation between paddle length and blade size, but I would say that the longer I’ve been surfing on a paddle board the more I prefer a smaller blade. I’m actually trying the smallest blade I’ve used to date. As you drop in volume the force needed to stay on top of the water increases. I describe it like putting more weight on the barbell. A big blade and lower cadence increases the pull needed.

Going smaller will ease pressure on elbows and shoulders. You might also want to play around with different flex. I find I like just a bit, not too stiff and definitely not too bendy.

      Hope that helps. E
